It was now only two days before the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The leading priests and teachers of the law were trying to find a way to arrest Jesus without the people seeing it. Then they could kill him.

In all the Gospels, the Passover festival plays a huge part. This is partially because Passover was so important to the Jewish people and the Hebrew faith. However, Jesus comes to earth to be the Passover lamb that was slain for the sin of the people. For Mark’s Gospel, the images of Isaiah 53 merge with the theme of Passover and Jesus paying the ransom to set sinners free. Jesus is our Passover lamb—the sacrifice that brings our freedom from sin.
Father, thank you for providing the sacrifice for my sin at such a great cost. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for paying the price for my sin. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
